Seahawks Fun Meet

Didn't really feel like swimming at the Seahawks Fun Meet, but I'm glad I did. It has been about 3 weeks since I have swum (or is it swam) due to events beyond the control of mortal man, so the idea of swimming as hard as I could against kids who spend 3 times a week doing it for hours just sounded a bit embarrassing.

BTW, the fun meet is when the parents get to swim against the kids on the Seahawks team plus the kids are split into two teams. 3 teams in other words. Fortunately, there were some masters in better shape than I so I didn't have to be on the A team.

In addition to some regular relays, we got to swim some really goofy races; such as the cork screw relay (one stroke freestyle, one stroke backstroke), 22 lap multiple kick board relay, etc. The parents did fairly well winning most of their races.

The cork screw relay was invented by the same guy that invented sticking your forehead on the end of a baseball bat and running around in circles 40 or 50 times. Ok, it's not quite as funny as there are no bushes or trees to run in to. It's still funny. The only thing funnier than seeing kids trying to swim it, is seeing grown men trying to do it.




They had a new event this year; the Fastest Family Relay. 4 to 8 member family teams swim 8 laps (25 meter) freestyle. EVERYONE knew who would win; the F's (Dad is the swim coach with 6 kids on the swim team). That left the other positions wide open for the race to 2nd place. The J's got 2nd (we'll beatcha next year, Homer). With the help of sisters Victoria and Natalie W my family of 6 took 3rd! Yay!

The evening ended at Ragazzi's of Cary for an awards banquet and a celebration of an undefeated season as TSA division champions! The Ragazzi staff were very accomodating and the food and service were great. I highly recommend them.

My youngest son, David, got the Most Outstanding 12 and Under award. He says to tell yall he's not 6, but 11.

The only sad part of the evening was that it was Coach F's oldest son's last homeschool meet. You guys might know him as Mattrix. Hopefully he'll be involved in coaching some next year. Regardless, we wish him the best as he heads out into the vast unknown reaches of life.
